Makita

A Brief History

Makita is a Japanese corporation founded as Makita Electric Works in 1915 to sell and repair lighting equipment, motors and transformers. The company grew steadily and reinvented itself in the late 1950s as a manufacturer of portable power tools. In 1958 it became the first company in Japan to manufacture and sell electric planers. More firsts were to come.

In 1969, Makita brought a revolutionary change to the construction industry with its 6500D battery-powered drill, the first rechargeable power tool. Nine years later, the company turned heads once again with the 6010D rechargeable drill, the first nickel-cadmium battery tool. Other breakthrough innovations include the AN5000 pneumatic nailed and the AC6001 air compressor (the first air tools), and the 6213D rechargeable driver-drill. This was the first nickel hydride battery tool.

Today,  the global company with manufacturing facilities in several countries is a world leader in the design and production of power tools.
