Dremel

A Brief History

Dremel is an American manufacturer of power tools, a trusted maker of quality products for more than 80 years. The multinational’s story starts with Albert J. Dremel, an Austrian immigrant who came to America in 1906 with little more than the shirt on his back. But what he did have was a head crammed with ideas and was awarded 55 patents during his lifetime.

Dremel started the company that bears his name in 1932, and one of its early products was a handheld, highspeed rotary tool called the Multi-tool. It was the first of its kind, an alternative to large, bulky tools. To this day, the modern versions of the Multi-tool continue to sell well. Other significant product milestones in the company’s history include:

  • 1957: The Dremel Moto-Saw
  • 1964: The Dremel Electric Engraver
  • 2001: The advanced high-speed rotary tool
  • 2003: The lithium-ion battery for power tools

The popular tool maker continues to expand, both its product offerings and its presence in multiple countries. Currently, Dremel supplies more than 80 countries worldwide. And according to its website, the brand has sold over 40 million rotary tools.
