DeWalt

A Brief History

DeWalt is an American manufacturer of power tools and hand tools founded by Raymond DeWalt in 1924. The inventor and entrepreneur invented the radial saw two years previously and set up the company to manufacture and sell the saw, which was marketed as the DeWalt “Wonder-Worker.” The firm enjoyed a successful start and grew quickly.

At the beginning of the 1940s, DeWalt entered a rapid expansion phase to fulfil government orders to help with national defence and wartime machinery.

In 1992 the company introduced its first portable electric power tools and accessories for contractors and professional woodworkers. But even bigger things were to come. Two years later, DeWalt launched more than 30 cordless tools. Among them were the 14.4-volt cordless drill/driver and 5 3/8″ cordless saw, two of the most powerful cordless tools at the time.

The multinational entered the new millennium with a product pipeline of more than 200 electric power tools and over 800 accessories, and it continued to innovate. In 2005 it developed SHOCKS – Active Vibration Control, which reduces vibrations by up to 50% compared to hammers that don’t have the system. Among the many other tools to hit the market since then are the 12V MAX system of lithium-ion tools in 2010 and Tool-Connect in 2015. This allows users with Bluetooth-enabled devices to connect with their devices in the field.
